David Sloan is super-excited to begin his 5th year at the helm of the Timberline MS Elementary Band program!

Originally from the Great State of Texas, Mr. Sloan has been in Washington for seven years and has taught for the Lake Washington School District since 2016, having been at Wilder Elementary for the past two years.  Before working with the Timberline cluster, he previously worked with the Redmond MS cluster and the Kirkland MS cluster.  He has also taught for the Highline School District in Burien, WA.

Before teaching, Mr. Sloan was working towards a Doctoral of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance at the University of Washington, Seattle with David Gordon (principal trumpet, Seattle Symphony Orchestra) as well as studying conducting with Timothy Salzman (Director of Bands, University of Washington).  As part of his course load, Mr. Sloan co-taught several ensembles and sections, including the UW Campus Band and was a part of the UW Wind Ensemble's tours of China in 2013 and 2016.

Before moving to Seattle, Mr. Sloan completed a Master of Music in Brass Performance degree at Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX) and a Bachelor of Music Education with EC-12 certification from the University of Houston (Houston, TX).

When he's not teaching, Mr. Sloan maintains an avid performance and private-lessons schedule.  As a trumpet player/teacher, he can be heard with various ensembles in a variety of contexts in, and around, the greater Seattle area.

He has also recently completed his Orff certification through the Portland Orff-Schulwerk Association, as well as having completed Kodaly Level I training at Seattle Pacific University.

When he's at home (or during summer), he likes coffee (hint, hint), listening to WAY too many podcasts, watching sports events, playing the occasional video game, reading a good book, and spending time with his wife, Isis, daughter, Yaeli, and their Yorkie, Coco.
