The Weekly Schedule is as follows:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Cadet Band Beginning Brass (trumpets/trombones) and Percussion Cadet Band Beginning Woodwinds (flute/clarinet/alto saxophone)  All Beginners

The first few days for Beginning Band, we will begin finalizing rosters, teaching rehearsal procedures, do some rhythmic and singing activities (yes, we also sing in band!) and show them how to get on the buses.

  • So, if you’re waiting on an instrument or a book, they’ll be fine.
  • Please refrain from getting an early start on your instrument (especially woodwinds, as assembly can be tricky (and expensive if done incorrectly!))
  • We will teach instrument assembly and first sounds in the first few weeks, once logistics are settled.

Coming to Rosa Parks in the morning:

(subject to change)

  • Mr. Sloan is here by 7:20 AM at the latest
  • As of now, we will rehearse in the Music portable on the west side of the school.  There is a path that leads to a gate into that area.  Students can meet there in the mornings and expect to enter the band room at 7:30 AM
  • Please be on time.  The gate will be locked once everyone is in and you will need to enter through the front office and go through the school if you arrive late.
  • On Fridays, we will rehearse in the Commons space.  Students will still meet at the gate, but will be led through the school to the space.
  • Rehearsal begins promptly at 7:40 AM and will run until 8:20 AM.
  • Students will need to bring their own folding music stand to rehearsal.  Chairs will be set up, but we will need to make sure they are put away before we leave.
  • Immediately following rehearsal, Wilder and Ella Baker students will be led to the front of the school where they will be bussed back to their home schools.  Once we leave the rehearsal space, Rosa Parks students may leave to join their class line-up spot
  • If students aren't using the bus to get to their home school (parent pick-up, bike, etc.), they need to clear it with me first.
  • At Rosa Parks and on the buses, your best behavior is expected.  Failure to comply with the instructions of RPES staff members, elementary band staff, or our bus drivers may result in expulsion from the program.

As always, you are free to contact us with any questions or concerns!

Thank you, and we look forward to meeting and working with you!
